We're live

Date posted: 18 Apr 2010

After a long slog of development we got the website application for Florence live and kicking today.

Login is at www.florence.uk.net. Don’t get too excited though, there is nothing to see here other than a login page. At this stage login is reserved for our early stage testers at Stoke on Trent PCT.

We’ve posted a few screen shots here so you to see what Florence looks like on a PC.

This first is the “My Patient” list which shows an at a glance position of your patients, the date they joined, and some basic personal details. You can filter the list to view patients grouped by their specific health requirements using left hand side navigation.

You’ll also see very clear links such as “Add new patient”. We carry a strong belief in making things easy to use, we don’t produce user guides and manuals. We think navigation, options, your next course of action should be clearly defined. There should be markers and guideposts to move you through the application with confidence and ensure you don’t take the wrong turning.

Think of it like this, have you ever been trained in facebook or google? Of course not, there are no guides or manuals. Google has a big box for you to type into in the middle of the page. It’s not by accident, it’s there because of well thought out design, to make it easy for you to search. And facebook, there are lots of application and functions, but no instructions, just a series of buttons and links that guide you through the process.

Anyway, guess what clicking on “Add new patient” does? Yep, you got it!

Here’s a screen short of some basic patient readings presented on a graph:

And finally: this shot of blood pressure readings showing both Systolic and Diastolic readings separated and presented on the same chart.

One thing you'll notice on this shot is the content of message being sent back to the patient, "Your BP reading is within your normal range today, Thanks Flo".

Our assessment of "normal" is achieved because we monitor all incoming readings against expected values. The values expected can be tailored to either a group of patients, or the requirement of an individual patient. We monitor all readings and plot trends over time, and where readings fall outside of limits or show worrying trends we'll take action by alerting both clinician and patient.
